How did we choose these apps?
We looked at what each company says about itself on its own pages, how much it costs, whether there is a free option, and whether one subscription covers both partners. We did not rank them by popularity or reviews. For a side-by-side table with sources, see our full comparison.
Connected: best for a free daily habit
Connected has a free tier that includes a daily check-in question, mood tracking, starter question packs and a connection score. Premium is $12.99 a month or $77.99 a year, and one subscription covers both partners. Premium adds AI coaching and insights, a conflict resolution suite and more assessments. Paired: best for quick daily activities
Paired is built on 5-minute activities such as questions, quizzes and games, and says plainly that it is not couples therapy. The free version offers one question a day; Premium is $79.99 per couple per year with a 7-day trial on the yearly plan, and Premium is shared once you are paired. Source: Paired FAQ.
Lasting: best for guided sessions on specific topics
Lasting describes itself as a marriage and couples counseling app. Its Premium subscription covers two users and offers sessions on topics such as communication, conflict, repair, trust and money, with a 7-day free trial. Source: App Store listing.
Figlet: best for a therapist-built AI coach
Figlet is an AI relationship coach from Empathi, built by Figs O'Sullivan, a licensed couples therapist (LMFT) trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, according to its own site. Plans start at $19.95 a month or $149 a year, and the first messages are free. Figlet describes itself as an AI coaching companion, not a substitute for professional therapy. Source: Figlet plans.
Happy Partners AI: best for a weekly check-in ritual
Happy Partners AI is built on the Relationship Check-In Method™, started by Jocelyn Johnson in 2018. It has Check-In, Solo Exploration, Role Play and Conflict modes, a skills library and downloadable check-ins, and it works in your web browser. It is free to start (20 free sessions, no credit card), then $39.99 a month, $99.99 every three months or $249.99 a year for both partners. It costs more per month than Paired or Connected, so it suits couples who want a structured weekly ritual rather than a daily nudge. Coach Joce is the AI coach inside the app, and is AI, not a human.
What should you look for in a relationship app?
- One thing you want to change. Talking more, fighting less, or feeling closer. Pick the app that makes that one thing easy.
- Whether both of you will use it. The best app is the one you both open.
- The real price. Check whether one subscription covers both partners and what the free option includes.
- Clear limits. Good apps say plainly that they are not therapy.
